When joint stiffness or pain strikes, it is a good idea to make an appointment with a chiropractor as soon as possible. As well as potentially addressing and soothing your pain, a chiropractor will be able to offer practical tips on looking after your joints.
Of course, it is unlikely that you will be able to make an appointment immediately. In this way, you will probably want to temporarily relieve your pain as best you can in the time between making an appointment and visiting your chiropractor. Fortunately, we’ve put together a few tips to help you out:
1. Soothe your joints with hot and cold temperatures
A long, warming bubble bath could bring effective temporary pain relief, particularly in the morning when your joints are likely to be at their least mobile. In fact, if you find that you are in a lot of pain in the morning, it may be worth investing in an electric blanket to keep your joints feeling moveable and fresh all night long.
Cold treatments could also be beneficial if you’re suffering from swelling or inflammation. Indeed, applying an ice pack or a simple bag of frozen peas to a swollen joint could help bring the relief you need before your chiropractic appointment.
2. Try some meditation
Trying out relaxation and meditation methods could help to mitigate any stress caused by your joint pain before chiropractic help is available. Whilst it will not necessarily completely eradicate the pain, it could help you cope with the pain better and allow you to walk into your appointment feeling more calm and prepared. You can get into meditation through a variety of mindfulness techniques available online or through various apps. You could also simply try sitting in a peaceful room, breathing deeply, and letting your thoughts unwind.
3. Add turmeric to your food
Turmeric contains a chemical known as curcumin that is known to have anti-inflammatory qualities. Whilst there is no guarantee that it will relieve your joint pain, it won’t hurt to sprinkle it into some spicy dishes. It could end up providing the light relief you need before visiting your chiropractor.
